We all remember our first month blogging. We all remember our mistakes when we begun blogging.
In this article I’d like to share some of my experience and help new bloggers in starting their first blog.
Do’s
Do spend the most of your time in writing great & unique content.
You’ll work hard to bring visitors to your blog. Your content is what brings visitor back to read more, and what makes visitors share it and help you spread the word.
Do find an experience blogger to advise you before you go live
As a new bloggers you probably anxious to start and share your content. As you are unexperienced you are more prone to make basic mistakes. We all make mistakes, it is part our learning process, but some mistake involved choosing a domain name or not setting basic settings of a blog such as permalinks might be harder to fix later.
How to find an adviser? Ask for feedback for your blog in blogging forums. Approach kindly people who gives you feedback and ask them for permission to contact them directly and ask more questions.
Do build your social credibility
Don’t waste your time sending internet marketing emails to your readers. Don’t just throw your blog name as a signature everywhere. Join forums and communities and contribute valuable content. By time people will recognize your Avatar and click it to reach your blog.
Do ask for feedback
Ask your family, your friends, the community. Ask about your theme. Ask if your blog looks professional.
Do understand that building traffic takes time. Be patience.
Don’ts
Don’t waste too much time on social networks
New bloggers tends to waste too much time on Twitter, Stumbleupon, MyBlogLog and their kind. While social networks gain you some immediate traffic, those visitors are less likely to come back since your content isn’t complete yet. At this point focus on writing great content and use social networks to follow others and learn their behaviour.
Don’t focus on earning money
You probably have a dream of leaving your 9 to 5 job and make a living writing and marketing online. Don’t put many adsense blocks in your blog. It just make your blog look commercial and with the amount of traffic you currently have, you won’t earn real money. Focus on writing great content and building your traffic.
Don’t turn into a spammer while promoting your blog
How many times we see comments in forums that look like:
very nice
http://blogdomain.com
Those kind of comments considered as spam.
Many new bloggers bomb the web with links to their blog, usually as part of a signature, thinking those will drive a lot of traffic to their blog. Those kind of comments are considered as spam. When putting your link in a forum try to be valuable and contribute something in return.
Don’t become a WordPress Expert
That true for any kind of CMS you use. Don’t waste too much time in finding the ultimate plugin and start developing a new theme. Do adjust basic WordPress settings and clean up the default WordPress installation. Focus in make it look professional by using the same formatting in all your posts, and aligning screen object such as images.
Don’t spend all day online
Go see a movie, read a book, do whatever inspired you and give you energy to write great content.
Did you like this post? don’t be shy retweet it and help me spread the word.

The one point you make that stands out to me is the “Don’t Turn Into a Spammer.” I just did an article today on how blogging is a marathon and not a sprint – too many people get eager to make money that they devalue what they’re bringing to the table by trying to make a quick buck. Often, it makes them no money and they’re back to square one. Excellent tips here!

I believe social media is an intergral part of helping to build and promote your blog. You must attract followers and readers who will help to get the word out and promote your blog.

HI Kirk,
Thank you for your comment.
I agree with you however I still think that it shouldn’t be your main focus on first month. A blogger should concentrate on Content building.
Cheers
