How To Make Money From RSS News Feed

In a previous post I discussed the importance of blog RSS feed subscribers.

In this post I’ll discuss simple ways to make money from your blog RSS news feed.

Some bloggers are concerned that RSS subscribers would never visit their blog. They fear it would lower number of ad impressions and decrease revenue. One way to get subscribers visit your blog is show them only a teaser for the post and a more link which will bring them to your blog. Personally I don’t like it. In my opinion RSS is another way of receiving content and as a subscriber I expect to see full content.

The answer to this problem is bringing the ads to your RSS subscribers.

3 simple ways to monetize RSS feed

Embed Adsense in your feeds.

Google feedburner lets you embed adsense in your feeds. Start by moving your feed into feedburner. Then sign in your Adsense account and click Get Ads -> Adsense for feeds.

You would be able to customize

Ads type – Text/Images.
Frequency of appearing – each feed item, every 2nd 3rd or 4th feed item.
Post length – show ads at post of any length, longer than 50, 100, 250 or 500 words.
Position – show ads at the bottom/top of feed item.

Embed Affiliate Marketing links within your post content

New to Affiliate Marketing? if not consider adding some affiliate links to your post content. It is definitely the best way to monetize your blog and you would have your links both in your content and RSS feed.

Use Ozh’ Better Feed WordPress plugin

(Not sure if such kind of plugin exists for other kinds of CMS. if one can comment below that would be great)

Better Feed will allow you to add anything below each entry in your RSS feed. You will be able to put text links or advertisement banners.

Some final words

Subscribers are your most loyal readers treat them with respect. If pages in your blog contain not more than 2 ad blocks don’t put say 5 as part of your feed.
