Writing comments in other blogs is one of the ways to promote your blog. But writing one comment usually won’t track many people to your blog. Usually it happen when people recognize several of your comments and like your contribution.
Open one post in every blog and scroll down to the comment section. You probably notice that some comments come with a small image beside, and some not.
In this article I explain what Gravatar is and discuss 1 common mistake people who use Gravatar do.
What is Gravatar
Gravatar is an image that follows you from site to site appearing beside your name when you do things like comment or post on a blog. You can create one with the free Gravatar service.
How do Gravatars appear in blog comment section
When you post a comment in any blog you are obligated to leave your email. Both WordPress and Blogger have integration with Gravatar service. On page load both send request to Gravatar service including your email as key and get your Gravatar in response.
The beauty is that you don’t need to track all your old comments or perform any action. As soon as you create your new Gravatar it will appear beside old comment of yours.
1 common mistake
The 1 mistake people make is using different images/Gravatars for different services.
Your image is the first thing people recognize (beside maybe your name) in comments and public profile of social networks. Using the same image will help you build your brand and make it easier to find you in different services.
